Mr

To the Manager, I brought an antique engagement ring in with a broken shank and asked for a quote on how much it would cost to repair it. The jeweller called back to explain it couldn't simply repair the shank as there were a number of other things wrong with ring and repairing the shank could cause these to worsen and break. I went into the jewellers where they showed me that as well as the shank being broken, the shoulder diamond setting was cracked and loose and that the heart shaped holes in the underneath of the ring were both cracked at the bottom, weakening the rings bezel. It was agreed that the workshop would fix everything and replace the entire shank with a new shank. My Fiancé’s finger was measured so that the new shank would be a perfect fit. The price was agreed at £450. Four weeks later my fiancé went to collect the ring. The shank had not been resized so the ring was returned to the workshop Two weeks later we picked up the ring, on returning home we noticed that the new shank did not have a hallmark on it to prove it was gold. We returned it to the Jewellers and it was returned to the workshop. Two weeks later we received the ring, however on returning home we noticed that one of the sapphires was now chipped. When we returned to the shop the staff told us that we must have done this, as the workshop are very good. They suggested it had always been like this. When I tried to remind them of the conversation where we discussed repairing the ring and doing 'everything' the manager couldn't remember me or the discussion and didn't have any notes or records. My point here being that if the sapphire had been cracked, we would have had it repaired then. The manager said that he would send it away and get a quote to repair the sapphire for us. At this point we were very disappointed with the customer service and the fact that we were blamed for something that had been done in the workshop. It took us four weeks of no contact from the shop before we finally went back to pick up the ring. Despite speaking to the staff a number of times I was repeatedly told by the female assistants that they didn't know anything about it as they weren't the ones who took the ring. On finally collecting the ring we were very surprised and pleased that the Manager had decided that he should repair the ring as he couldn't say for certain that the workshop didn't cause the damage. Four months later one of the repairs to the cracked heart shape wore away, causing the underneath of the ring to have two sharp joins which cut into the finger when wearing. On returning to the jewellery shop the manager again told us that he didn't remember that bit being worked on and that his notes only state that the shank, shoulder and bezel were worked on. It was incredibly disappointing to be called a liar to my face and also that the notes and records the shop hold are so illegible and poor that despite me spending £450 on a repair they can't tell me exactly what work the workshop did. The manager offered to send the ring back to the workshop so they can tell him whether the worn area was something they had repaired or not. That was four weeks ago and we have heard nothing since. EDIT – We have just returned from picking up the un-repaired ring having been told it wasn't an area worked on by the workshop. At the same time that we took in the ring after the repair failed, we also took in my fiancé’s watch. The cog on the side had broken some time before and we just wanted it to be repaired. They sent it away for a quote and when we went in they had done the work without checking the estimate with us. The cost was an agreeable amount so we were happy enough with this. However when we returned home we discovered that the watch wasn't working, also the back of the watch was now scratched and dented slightly as if someone had levered it open with a screwdriver, not the standard we were expecting from a professional watch repairer. On returning to the shop my fiancé was shocked when the staff accused her of damaging the watch, showing her a ticket which stated glass scratched. The glass is scratched and we weren't talking about this but the poor workmanship on the back of the watch. Then the staff said that the watch would need to be sent away and looked at to see why it wasn't working, that it could be a battery which would cost £15. At this point I was very disappointed and asked them how they could tell me that they had done the repair when I couldn't see the watch working. They could, in fact, have repaired that fault but damaged the rest of the inner mechanisms and we wouldn't know because the watch wasn't working. If during the repair they had contacted us to say it needed a new battery this would have been fine and we would have been happy with this. In conclusion, the workmanship is a bit shoddy with a repair on the ring failing, the workshop cracking a sapphire on an antique engagement ring, the watch repair looking like I could have done better at home. The customer service here is basically nothing. The staffs attitude time and again has been one of 'I didn't book it in... I don't know anything about it, I can't help'. The reason we used a small family run jewellers was because we expected a better customer experience and wanted to find someone we could use with everything for the future, including our forthcoming wedding. However I was shocked when they told me that I was wrong with my remembering of our conversation, the fact they have no records of work done, that they can tell us that my fiancé must have caused the damage. I will never use this jewellers again and I will not recommend them to anyone else. This review will be put up on Yell.com and all other review sites I can find... and will be the first one for this Jewellers. I hope in future you consider your customers better.

HORRENDOUS JEWELLERS

Left one star, only because you can't leave zero Took a Tissot watch to have a replacement battery. Charged far more than other places, but i thought they were reputable, and the watch was expensive, so I got them to do it. 6 weeks later the watch stopped. So, I asked my wife to take it back for me. Manager was very, very unhelpful. made my wife feel uneasy, as he was so ubrupt and rude. He questioned whether the shop had replaced the battery, so in the end we printed out a copy of our credit card receipt to prove it. when the battery was originally replaced, no receipt was given, just the watch in a brown envelope, with our name on the front. In the end, he agreed to take a look at the watch. He never called back, so 5 days leter, I myself went to collect the watch. The two ladies were extremely friendly, but the manager was again rude and ubrupt. He told me the battery was fine, the watch was broken and needed to be sent back to Tissot, which they could arrange at a cost of £79. Parts and labour would be extra if required. I took the watch, and took it to a Tissot Service Centre in London. They called me a few days later. Surprise surprise, the watch was absolutely fine. The battery was a "cheap" battery, and the battery was dead. they replaced the battery and cleaned the watch for £25. AND, gave me a guarantee. I would NEVER use the shop again, EVER. I have been in the shop before, and the manager was arguing with another customer at the time. I had no idea what they were arguing about, but the customer was calloing the manager all sorts of names. Very unpleasant experienec all round. AVOID, would be my recommendation
